What’s been keeping me so busy? | Charlottesville Wedding Photographer
I have been terribly negligent in keeping this website up to date & posting new content. However, it’s not because I haven’t been busy! On the contrary, last year was my busiest yet!
Every so often on our Instagram I’ve posted a little tidbit from…a wedding? Now, I know what you are thinking…I don’t *do* weddings. 😉 Skybird Photography is not a wedding photography business, but rather a newborn + baby photographer (as well as a photography editor for other photographers, which will be a whole other post)! And not a bit of that is changing.
Over the past few years, I have been working with the fabulous Beth from 3 Cats Photo, as a second shooter. A “second shooter”, for those who aren’t familiar with the term, is the other photographer(s) who works for your wedding photographer. Every wedding photographer is different…some prefer not to work with seconds. Others prefer to never work without one! Or two, in Beth’s case, as our Dream Team is when Beth, the other Beth (another spectacular photographer and friend), and I can tag-team the busy day.
Although a wedding takes months (years, even!) to plan, the day itself goes by very fast. As a photographer, it’s impossible to be in two or even three places at once…so having a reliable second can help make the day go more smoothly. For Beth, I am often her “details” shooter…when she is taking family formal images, that might be the time I run in to grab all those details of the reception space (often the spot that has the most personal elements of the wedding). Rings, shoes, that something borrowed and blue…I love to creatively capture them. The ceremony is always better represented when we have a few different viewpoints. But, my favorite is when we, as a creative team, have fun with the couple’s portraits for their first look, and right at that golden hour. The couple might feel a bit like the paparazzi have descended upon them with our cameras snapping, but we all have a ton of fun. And, that’s often when Beth steps back and says “Amy go get that Brenizer!”
SO when you see some random wedding image on my page? This is why! I started out with just a few weddings a year with Beth, to shooting 10 (almost all of hers) last year with her! And I plan to keep being a part of the 3 Cats team (we hope to get some photos of us up on her site soon), and am looking forward to 2019 weddings!
However, this won’t stop me from my newborns and babies! 😉
Although I get to see a lot of the images I created for Beth on her site as she posts them, I wanted to take the time to go through 2018 and show a few of my favorites from our very busy season (9 weddings here, and I’ll have Sarah’s wedding as a separate post, which was one we “co-photographed”).
