An early spring morning on a slightly chilly Sunday is the perfect time for a maternity shoot on the University of Virginia grounds!
Well, we could have done without the “chilly” part…even with super warm temperatures every other day around it, we just happened to pick a brisk day.ย However, the kids were absolute champs (as you can see it wasn’t THAT cold, but temperatures in the 60s feel cold when it had been in the 80s the day before).
UVA is a ghost town on Sunday morning…quiet and peaceful, with just a few students milling about with coffee in their hands.ย We took the opportunity to snag a few family and maternity shots along the Lawn.
Anyone familiar with UVA knows about the Lawn and its picturesque landscape, but I greatly prefer the gardens along the backs of the Pavilions.ย And spring makes for a lovely backdrop, with green ivy and flowering trees and bushes.
The gardens are spectacular, and every one of them is a little bit different, so we ended up spending a long time wandering through them to find some spots before the sun rose too high…I am always less concerned about location as I am about the lighting, but it’s just perfect when I have both great lighting AND great location!ย This next image was only possible early on, because as soon as the sun peeked above the Pavilions across the way, this beautiful doorway and stoop was in full sun.ย I’m glad we snagged this spot before the sun was too high!
Unfortunately the Rotunda is still being worked on, so all the stairs & porch area were completely blocked off, but again…thank goodness for those garden spots!
The S family is very ready for their little brother to arrive.
