Vacation With another Photographer Friend| Outer Banks (Charlottesville Family Photographer)
Every year, our family takes a summer trip down to the Outer Banks, and this year was no exception. And one ritual we have, is I provide family photos for the other families as my part of the “work”. Usually, that gets me out of cooking a few meals, so it’s a nice trade.
And, the bane of all photographer’s existence is being able to get oneself in any family photos, and luckily, one of the families that came this year is one of my very dearest friends, and fellow photographer, Jodi of Jodi May Photography. Her youngest, Drew, was one of my baby package babies, that I got to follow from newborn to 1 year old! But that meant she got to return the favor, and did our family photos which we are overjoyed to have.
Although Jodi isn’t specializing in family photography, check out her website as she offers wedding packages and also real estate photography services in the Northern Virginia and surrounding areas. I also am happy to say I am on her “second shooter” and assistant list, meaning whenever I can, I will help her shoot weddings. So maybe we will yet find a way to combine our businesses and create a partnership. 😉
Anyway, back to pictures.
After our busy morning photoshoot with the G family, we waited a day and took an evening to shoot Jodi’s family. Unfortunately, her husband couldn’t come on this vacation with us due to prior work obligations, but Jodi was happy to finally get in a few photos with her beautiful boys. BOY, Drew has grown so much, hasn’t he?

And then it was time to take the family over the dunes to the beach!
The summer, early evening light was stunning and soft, and Jodi’s choice of sea blues for her family really made for a great palette.
Bryce’s smile shows how much he loved the ocean and the beach.
Drew was a little mixed…he liked looking at the ocean (and sometimes not at the camera!).
But Jodi could not put him down, as the sand + Drew = Fussy time.
Luckily, all we needed was the tiniest amount of time to get some shots of the lovely mom & sons, and then right back over the dunes, but not before one last sunset lit picture:
But WAIT??? What is that you can’t see? There are FOUR people in that picture above. YES. Just like the G family, Jodi found out on our vacation that she was pregnant, and has since confirmed it is Baby Boy #3! So as it turned out, I was the only person NOT pregnant on our beach trip.
Thanks to Jodi of Jodi May Photography for being both my subjects and for doing our own family photos that week. These pictures bring back all the fun memories, and hopefully we’ll be able to do it again.
