Skybird Photography:ย Charlottesville Photography Studio
BIG exciting news here at Skybird Photography!
In the interest of moving our family closer to Charlottesville and into a more kid-friendly neighborhood, we moved this past winter into Forest Lakes!ย ย This neighborhood has so many wonderful families, amenities, paths to walk, lakes to visit, animals to see…it’s just the best.ย My husband has been saying, we didn’t buy a house, we bought a neighborhood.ย The location is a fabulous place for our daughter to grow up!
However, when searching for new homes, the priority was location for us, but also a larger area where I can have an in-home studio!
Our “new to us” house needed a lot of finish work, which was right up our alley…my husband is an electrical engineer, and I’m a former interior designer.ย We installed new lighting as well as updated the fire safety, new window treatments, patched up drywall everywhere, and painted.ย I chose this warm gray paint color for the majority of our first floor, and it is perfect for my new in-home studio:
Here is where I work…a large portion of Skybird Photography + Design is actually the “design” portion.ย I edit for multiple other professional photographers across the country.ย So I need a good work and editing area for my desk, so the windows have both sheers (for photoshoots to soften the light) and blackout liners to allow for perfect editing conditions.ย We installed new dimming lights to control the light even further.
My studio is adjacent to our family room, which is a great spot for clients to rest and relax during a newborn session…they can even catch a bit of TV or a nap (hey, new parents know that sounds heavenly!).
You will see some of my seamless paper options (more are stored in another room), as well as our product offerings on my wall, streamlined the year to be either professional grade prints, Stand Out prints, float wraps, fine art acrylics, and our new offering, a hanging canvas.
The large IKEA storage unit houses most of my layers, wraps, blankets, and other accoutrements for newborn and baby photoshoots.
Here’s a closer look at our hanging canvas wall art…I used a favorite photo of my daughter to sit above my computer!
Here is a shot of the IKEA storage open, so you can see how much is in there!ย So many colors and textures and extras.ย
It includes a pull-out tray for various headbands and such.
And of course, storage for all those blankets and wraps I’ve collected (and made!).ย
Now that our studio is up and running, we offer newborn sessions, baby sessions, and a new special “baby growth mini” sessions here.ย This session is great if you want to get just a few photos of your baby in their first year (from 3 months to 1 year), with one background and minimal props.ย We also have an all-inclusive studio session for children, so contact us for details!ย We still go on location for family photoshoots, and can still come to you for newborn sessions as needed.
We hope you are as excited as we are to have a studio to come to for a fun, unique portrait experience!
